KOKOMO, Ind. (March 15, 2016) - In less than one hour, two armed robbers hit three different trailer parks in Kokomo.
Early Thursday morning, police say the violent crime spree started in the Riley Modern trailer park on North Washington Street.
“It blows your mind because you never think it would happen to you,” said Courtney Harting, a robbery victim.
Harting tells us two robbers broke into her home the same day she brought her newborn baby girl home from the hospital. Harting, her husband and four little kids were all sleeping when the robbery occurred.
“I was so ready to get out of the hospital and then come home and the scariest thing in my life happens to me,” said Harting.
Police say two armed and masked men pushed open the front door and then threated everyone inside including the scared children.
“They said if we didn’t shut our kids up they were going to blow their heads off,” said Harting.
The mom told us the men wanted cash so she gave them everything she had.
“All for $5, apparently they thought they were going to get more. I don’t know,” says Harting.
Police say the robbers continued their crime spree. They hit a home in the Bon Air Trailer Park. Residents told investigators they woke up when two men barged into their bedroom. One victim allegedly tried to fight off one of the intruders, but instead ended up getting hit in the head several times with a gun.
Less than ten minutes after that home invasion, police received another call from a nearby trailer park. A resident reported that someone stole a parked car.
“It just seemed it was out of complete randomness to be honest,” said Harting.
Police arrested Markisus Christopher. The 19-year-old has been charged with three felonies including auto theft and burglary.
“You just don’t feel safe anymore or anything because two people you don’t even know can just do that to you. I want to know why they did it to us? That was really what I want to know why?” asks Harting.
Detectives are still looking for another suspect. If you know anything you’re asked to call Kokomo police at 765-456-7278.
