INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 15, 2016) –Regardless the NFL’s complicated formula, the bottom line is clear: more money for players.

Safety Dwight Lowery headed the list, with $230,522.63, as the Indianapolis Colts divvied up their allotment of the league’s performance-based pay program.

The program rewards every player who took a snap with a team with a check in addition to what he earned last season. The formula weighs playing time against salary and was put in place to help compensate undrafted free agents and lower-round draft picks who out-perform their contracts.

The payout is not part of a team’s salary cap, and each team had a distribution pool of $3.8 million.

Along with Lowery, three other players earned checks in excess of $200,000: rookie defensive tackle David Parry ($210,842), center Jon Harrison ($208,313) and guard Jack Mewhort ($201,844).

Lowery, who recently signed a three-year, $7.2 million free-agent deal with the San Diego Chargers, and Parry were two of five defensive players to start all 16 games last season. Lowery was third on the team with 83 tackles and second with four interceptions.
