Coby Fleener

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 9, 2016) – First Dwayne Allen, then Coby Fleener hit the NFL’s form of the lottery.

Shortly after Allen remained with the Indianapolis Colts by signing a four-year, $29.4 million contract, Fleener agreed to a five-year, $36 million free-agent contract with the New Orleans Saints.

Fleener’s deal came a few hours after the league’s veteran free-agent market opened at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Allen and Fleener gave the Colts a solid tight end tandem over the past four seasons. They selected Fleener in the second-round of the 2012 draft and chose Allen in the third round.

Fleener departs after four productive seasons. He appeared in 60 of a possible 64 regular-season games and caught 183 passes for 2,154 yards and 17 touchdowns. Fleener had at least 51 receptions in each of the past three seasons.

Along with receiving a hefty contract, Fleener is transitioning from one quality quarterback to another: Andrew Luck to Drew Brees. He has spent the past seven seasons catching passes from Luck, dating back to their college days at Stanford.
