‘Pray for Dre’ basketball tournament honors teen survivor of gun violence

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Mar. 5, 2016)– Dozens of youth basketball players will compete Saturday in the 2nd Annual Pray for Dre basketball tournament at the Imagine Indiana Live Sciences Academy West.

DeAndre "Dre" Knox sustained a life-altering injury during a party in February 2014 that left him with a severe brain injury, unable to speak and a quadriplegic.

Dre will come from his rehabilitation center in Illinois Saturday to attend the basketball tournament.

Dre's mother, DeAndra Yates, will host the tournament. Yates has made it her life mission after her son's shooting to advocate for gun safety and gun violence victims. She was recently invited to be a guest of of President Obama for his announcement to tighten gun control measures across the nation. 

The basketball tournament starts at noon Saturday at the Imagine Indiana Life Sciences Academy West, 4950 West 34th Street.

Tickets are $5 at the door.
