Fire that damaged west side condo under investigation

INDIANAPOLIS,Ind. (February 28, 2016)–Fire heavily damaged a west side condominium Sunday evening.

Fire crews were called to the 4000 block of Gateway Court at the Gateway Condominiums shortly before 7 p.m.

When firefighters arrived they found flames showing from the first floor.

The occupants which included three adults and a 5-year-old child were not home at the time of the fire.  They told firefighters the electricity in the condo kept shutting off earlier in the day.

According to firefighters, the occupants had been gone about 30 minutes before the fire broke out.

Firefighters brought the flames under control within 15 minutes.

The fire was confined to the kitchen space.  Damage has been estimated at $25,000.

No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
