SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (Feb. 25, 2016)– A Shelbyville man was found guilty Wednesday of two counts of child molesting.

Jeffrey Ray Chaney, 30, now faces up to 80 years in prison.

The Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office says a commercial that aired during a football game prompted the victim to inform an adult of the abuse. Investigators discovered the victim was sexually abused by Chaney for years.

On Thursday, a jury decided Chaney qualifies as an habitual offender.

He will be sentenced on March 23. Chaney must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he can be released.

Shelby County Prosecutor James Landwerlen commended the victim for testifying against Chaney in court.
