INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 25, 2016)– Indianapolis-based Republic Airways filed for bankruptcy protection Thursday.

The company says it worked hard to avoid the Chapter 11 reorganization, but ultimately decided it’s in the best interest of the airline.

Republic owns Republic Airline and Shuttle America Corporation, offering roughly 1,000 flights a day to cities in 38 states, Canada and the Caribbean.

The company will continue normal business operations while restructuring.
