Massive candy bar recall underway in European countries
FRANKFURT, Germany (February 23, 2016) — The U.S. chocolate maker, Mars, announced Tuesday that they are recalling some of their candy products in 55 countries after a consumer found bits of plastic in one of the bars.
The candy bars in the European recall include Mars, Snickers and Milky Ways as well as some other chocolate products.
Mars spokesman for Germany, Raoul Hamacher, told the news agency DPA the bars had been produced in a factory in the Netherlands, and that the recall was the result of a complaint from a woman who had found a piece of plastic in a chocolate bar.
Hamacher didn’t disclose the total volume of the recall and the likely cost arising from it for the company. In its German factory at Viersen alone, Mars produces around 10 million snacks daily.
A Mars spokesperson said the recall only affects candy bars in the European countries and that there are no issues or concerns with products being produced in the United States.
