Heavy rain & accumulating snow is on the horizon
Our weather will be quiet today. Morning sunshine will give way to increasing afternoon clouds and highs running 8-12 degrees above average.
After midnight tonight rain will move in from the south. Rain will be heavy at times through the Wednesday AM commute. Temperatures will fall steadily with 40 mph wind gusts expected. Prior to the change over to snow, we will see about 1″ of rain.
That change over to snow will happen during Wednesday afternoon and evening from northwest to southeast across the state.
We can expect some pockets of heavy snow. This is still an evolving forecast and the exact track of the low may shift slightly between now and tomorrow…but here is a preliminary forecast. We KNOW we will see our highest totals northwest of Indy where we’ll have more lake enhancement. Pockets of ~5″ will be common around Kokomo, Marion & Lafayette. Lesser amounts will be seen well southeast of Indy where it’ll take a little longer to change over from rain to snow.
Nonetheless, we will ALL have some accumulation in time for the Thursday AM commute. Snow will taper off by Thursday afternoon.
A lot of melting will take place this weekend with temperatures returning to the 40s.
