INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 11, 2016) – A high school basketball player got the shock of a lifetime when his uncle, a soldier who just returned from Afghanistan, surprised him at a basketball game Wednesday night.

U.S. Army Specialist Kyle English made the surprise appearance at Cardinal Ritter last night, where his nephew, Dylan Allen, was playing for Beech Grove High School. English recently wrapped up a one-year deployment.

The two are best friends, and English wasn’t expected to come home for another week.

“I just want to have something memorable. I know that he actually wants to see me at the airport,” English said before the surprise reunion. “To come here to Cardinal Ritter when he’s playing a game will be something that he’ll remember.”

English has been discharged and will now get to stay in Indianapolis with his nephew and family.
