IMPD officer in stable condition after late night crash

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 11, 2016) – Police say an IMPD officer is in stable condition after a car accident on the city’s northwest side late Wednesday night.

Police were dispatched to Kessler Boulevard and Grandview Drive just before midnight after a crash was reported. When officers arrived they found an IMPD officer’s patrol car had been hit by another vehicle.

Police say the officer was off-duty, traveling westbound on Kessler Blvd. in his patrol car when he was struck by a woman heading northbound on Grandview Dr.

According to officers on scene, the woman ran a flashing red light and T-boned the officer’s patrol car.

The IMPD officer had to be extricated from his vehicle and was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in serious condition. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.Thursday afternoon, police said the officer was upgraded to stable condition.

Police say the woman was uninjured. She was taken to the hospital for a blood draw, though officers do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
