INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 4, 2016)– Well-known Indianapolis gun store owner Don Davis died Thursday. He was 82.

Davis, the owner of Don’s Guns at West 38th Street and Lafayette Road, passed away at Community South Hospital.

Known for his late night television commercials and infectious laugh, Davis’ punchline was, “I don’t want to make any money, I just love to sell guns.”

Davis was born in Kentucky and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He moved to Indy in the 1960s and became a bar bouncer. He later caught the attention of the Teamsters Union Local 135.

Soon, Davis was a confidant of Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa and a troubleshooter for the union boss.

In the 1970s, Davis began his business with a handful of guns and a license that allowed him to set up shop in a garage.

Soon, his business grew and he become one of the most prolific gun dealers in America.

Always quotable, Davis often portrayed a common-sense approach to gun sales while arguing, “If the constitution and congress and the governor and the mayor say it’s legal, who am I to disagree?”
