Man gets 98-year sentence in 2014 hotel murder, robbery
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 29, 2016)– A man was sentenced Friday to 98 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for murder and robbery after a jury found him guilty earlier this month.
The murder and robbery of Dustin Woods happened on Feb. 8, 2014 at the Regal 8 Hotel in the 6200 block of West Washington Street.
Woods and a friend were inside a hotel room organizing items to sell at Indy pawn shops.
Johnson and Alejandro Mauricio entered the room armed with a handgun. They used tape to bind the victims’ hands and feet. After Johnson and Mauricio fled the hotel room, Woods followed them to the parking lot.
Woods’ friend saw two vehicles driven by the men leaving. He left the room and found Woods lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.
A jury convicted Johnson of all counts including murder, robbery, criminal confinement and carrying a handgun without a license.
Mauricio pleaded guilty to robbery and received a habitual offender enhancement. He is currently serving a 35-year sentence.
