Police: West Lafayette McDonald’s employee stole customers’ credit card info
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (January 18, 2016) – A McDonald’s employee was arrested for allegedly stealing customers’ credit card info for her own personal use.
According to the Lafayette Journal & Courier, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department investigated six credit / debit card fraud reports and tracked the fraudulent transactions to specific stores.
Detectives then used store surveillance images to identify two people behind the fraudulent transactions. Detectives identified the suspects as Mekeisha Roberts, 24, and Damien Smith, 22.
Authorities told the Lafayette Journal & Courier that Roberts worked at the McDonald’s on Sagamore Parkway. While working at the cash register, she swiped customers’ debit and credit cards twice – once to ring up the transaction and a second time to skim the cards’ information for personal use.
Smith is not a McDonald’s employee, but police suspect he went on the shopping sprees with Roberts.
Both Smith and Roberts have been charged with theft and fraud.
