SUN PRAIRIE, WI (January 17, 2016) -- There's more than one question circulating in regards to Groundhogs Day this year. Sure, we want to know if "Jimmy" will see his shadow, but also if "Jimmy" will be a real groundhog.

The town of Sun Prairie is looking into other options.  This comes after last year's ground hog bit the mayor's ear. Now town officials say they're considering a fake groundhog due to public safety concerns.

"We would have something that would be a groundhog," said new Mayor Paul Esser.  "He might be a ceremonial groundhog.  You know, might be in the form of not a live animal but something that is a replica of an animal."

Town officials say there will absolutely be a groundhog. However, this year "Jimmy" might be five foot tall, more like Bucky the Badger or Sassy the Cow, maybe a mascot of sorts.

Some residents disagree with the possible change, stating it takes away from the magical yearly tradition. Others feel the new idea is safer and more family friendly.
