IMPD arrests homicide victim’s roommate

UPDATE (February 15, 2018) — A jury found Derrick Dillard not guilty of murder after his trial. The judge ordered him to be released from custody in connection with the case.

Update (April 15, 2016) — Dillard has been charged for the murder of Jeffrey Robinson.

INDIANAPOLIS (January 17, 2016) — IMPD Homicide detectives have arrested the roommate of man found slain in his east side home last Thursday.

41-year-old Jeffrey Robinson was found shot to death in the 600 block of North Linwood Avenue.

Neighbors identified Derrick Dillard, 32, as Robinson’s roommate and in the vicinity of the house at approximately the same time as the killing.

Dillard was tracked to a hotel on East 38th Street where a .38 revolver was recovered.

Dillard has been charged as a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.

Robinson’s murder was the fifth criminal homicide in Indianapolis thus far this year.

The killing of convenience store clerk  in Cumberland Friday night was Marion County’s sixth murder of the year.
