Woman arrested after assaulting two police officers

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 3, 2016)–A Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy and an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police K-9 officer were assaulted while attempting to arrest an erratic driver, Sunday afternoon.

Around 12:18 p.m., a female deputy observed a female motorists driving erratically and weaving in and out of traffic in the 7000 block eastbound Washington Street.

The deputy got the driver stopped near Interstate 465.

Police say the woman exited her car and immediately approached the deputy and began assaulting the female deputy.

According to investigators, the woman got back in her car and fled, continuing east on Washington.

The deputy called for help and responding officers got the woman stopped again in the 8700 block of East Washington.

An IMPD K-9 officer approached the woman and police say the woman assaulted the second officer.

Police were finally able to get the woman restrained and placed her under arrest.

No one was seriously injured in the two incidents.

39-year-old Patrice L. Petty of Indianapolis was arrested for fleeing, resisting, and battery of a law enforcement officer.
