Fire officials search for cause in Speedway house fire

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (January 3, 2016) — Fire officials are looking for a cause of a house fire in Speedway Sunday afternoon.

Just after noon, the Speedway Fire Department was dispatched to the 1900 block of Allison Drive,  just west of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Upon arriving they found black smoke coming from the back bedroom.

Three people had been inside the home when the incident occurred and had vacated the house, however the female adult who had been babysitting one of the children with her own child, went back inside to retrieve some items. In doing so, she was overcome with smoke inhalation. She was treated and the scene and released.

Officials want to use this opportunity to remind everyone to never go back into a burning building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no damage amount to the home has yet to be determined.
