INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (December 25, 2015)-  For the first time since prohibition, it's now legal to buy alcohol on Christmas Day in the state of Indiana. It's all thanks to a new state law that went info effect in July.

CBS4 went on a search to find where you can buy alcohol. We found many places are closed on Christmas Day. Major retailers like Target and Walmart are closed. Grocery store chains like Marsh, Meijer, and Kroger are also closed.

A good place to pick up booze is convenience stores. Many gas station chains like Rickers are open Christmas Day.

Restaurants and bars can also serve alcohol at hours of their choosing.

At High Velocity downtown, the bar opens at 2 p.m. and will stay open until 1 a.m.

“We were staying open on Christmas and now we can sell alcohol along with food," said General Manager, Ryan Miller.

Downtown Olly's opened early and they'll stay open late Christmas Day as well. They've had plenty of regular customers throughout the day already.

“Our phone’s been ringing all morning long, are we open are we open?," said bartender Philip Jones.

Olly's is decked out with Christmas decor and plenty of cheer. Many regular customers say the atmosphere makes them feel like home.

“I’m here with my other family, so I enjoy being able to buy alcohol on Christmas," said Jason Weaver.

Many bars and restaurants that are open have restricted hours today, so it's always a good idea to call ahead and check to see if they are open.

Next year, Christmas falls on a Sunday, so alcohol sales will be suspended Christmas Day 2016.
