LAPEL, Ind. (December 24, 2015)-  A Grinch is on the loose in Lapel stealing Christmas decorations. Police received at least four reports of thefts that happened just after midnight on Monday.

“Do you need Christmas decorations that bad that you need to steal them?” explains Lori Cunningham, who had her Christmas decorations stolen.

The Christmas crooks stole a Frosty the Snowman and a Mrs. Clause figurine from Lori Cunningham’s front yard.

“I’m just very sad, that’s all I can about it. I’m just very sad,” explains Cunningham.

The Frosty and Mrs. Clause weren’t just some ordinary, store bought decorations; the two had a story going back 50 years.

“They were from my mother and father –in-law. My father-in-law has already passed away and he loved to see them out.  I wanted to keep them and one day pass them down to our daughter and her family and now that’s just not going to be possible,” explains Cunningham.

Cunningham’s home was just one of the homes thieves hit.   The small town believes two Santa’s, a Frosty, a Mrs. Clause, strands and laser lights were also stolen.

“Somebody has to be pretty brave because they are right up next to our door,” explains Cunningham.

A surveillance camera at a nearby business caught a glimpse of a truck police believe is involved.  Detectives haven’t been able to determine an exact make and model of the truck.  They believe it’s a large, extended cab pickup truck.

Police believe they are looking for a group of thieves that were working together on this crime.
