INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - It's the season of giving and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officers were spreading some holiday cheer, Monday morning.
A group of officers handed out 200 $100 gift cards to families in need in their districts.
The program is called 'Operation Ho Ho 5-0'.
$20,000 was donated by an anonymous local businessman who wanted to strengthen IMPD community relations and improve the quality of life for the City's struggling residents.
IMPD officers got to choose which families got the gift cards and many people were shocked when that holiday cheer showed up at their door.
Officer Danny Anderson of the Northwest District spoke about the people he chose to receive the gift cards.
"They just moved here from Cincinnati. Two days just from living in Indianapolis, their house was broken into," he said.
The gift cards were purchased from Old National Bank, which waived all service charges and fees.
