NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Dec. 17, 2015) - Many Hoosiers will be rushing to sign up for gym memberships with the new year around the corner. In Hamilton County, one gym has a different approach that’s not just about weight loss. Noblesville Athletic Club finds ways to open its doors to the community.
Susie Borgnini is a breast cancer survivor, and part of her health journey is yoga.
“I hadn’t done yoga before,” said Borgnini. “I wasn’t sure about it, but I thought why not give it a try.”
Borgnini lives in Westfield, but travels to the Noblesville Athletic Club for this class where you don’t need to be a paying member.
“It is every Wednesday at noon,” said General Manager Cindy Kinney. “It is free to cancer survivors, folks that are dealing with cancer and also their caregivers.”
The gym works with a local cancer support group to offer the free class, but that’s not all. The staff also offers a program for young adults with special needs.
“It’s just everybody needs exercise and we want to welcome everybody,” said Kinney. “We want to meet them where they are.”
Borgnini has made friends and found support over the last year of the yoga class.
“It’s really nice. The support is nice,” said Borgnini. “Some are doing well. Some are doing not so well. It’s just encouraging. You can fight this.”
