Teen found not guilty of murder in connection with fatal northeast side shooting in 2015

UPDATE: A jury found Brian Wellington not guilty of murder on Feb. 7, 2017. He was found guilty of carrying a handgun without a license.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 9, 2015) – Police arrested a 17-year-old in connection with a fatal shooting last month on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

On the afternoon of Nov. 29, police arrived to find Benjamin Lynch, 22, suffering from gunshot wounds. Lynch was taken to Eskenazi Hospital and later died from his injuries.

Detectives said Lynch had been speaking with two individuals when an altercation ensued and shots were fired. Police did not retrieve a gun from the scene.

On Dec. 4, police issued a warrant for Brian Wellington, 17, for murder and carrying a handgun without a license. Members of the IMPD Gang Unit took Wellington into custody Tuesday night in the 4700 block of Kingsmead Place.
