Residents left without power after utility pole damaged by vehicle crash, fire

INDIANAPOLIS (December 8, 2015) – About 2,250 people were without power Tuesday morning after a utility pole caught fire on the city’s northeast side.

IMPD officers responded to a call about a vehicle that crashed into a utility pole near the intersection of East 42nd Street and North Arlington Avenue around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

When they arrived on scene, they found the vehicle and the utility pole were both on fire.

There are no details about injuries at this point.

According to IPL, the area impacted is from East 46th St. south to East 40th Street, and from North Arlington Avenue to Shadeland Avenue. Traffic lights are also out in this area.

Officers urge residents to use caution as IPL works to restore power.
