BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (Dec. 7, 2015)– A major food pantry in Boone County needs help getting through the rest of the year.

The Caring Center in Lebanon needs to raise $40,000 to keep the lights on and services operating for thousands of people.

The non-profit helps about 3,000 families every year with food, clothing, essentials, classes, and workshops. Its goal is to feed the food insecure and help them get back to a functional level. However, the Center’s annual budget of about $170,000 just ran out.

Some items like baby formula, fruits, and vegetables are lacking. However, the Center primarily needs money to help pay the bills. Monetary donations help keep the walk-in freezer running, pay for the truck that picks up donations and keep the lights on.

“I can write grants to get the books for our workshops, but I can’t write a grant to pay my light bill,” said Caring Center Executive Director Theresa Hanners.

So far, the Center has collected $8,000 of the $40,000, but they need the community to rally the rest and Hanners hopes the holidays will open up some hearts.

“Helping somebody always changes the way you feel about yourself,” she said.
