INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 28, 2015) — The Red Cross is assisting a local family after their home is damaged in a fire.

The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the fire on the 400 block of Parkway Avenue just before 10:30 AM Saturday.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire. Two bedrooms were heavily damaged, and the family’s Christmas presents were covered in soot. Firefighters were able to recover the presents and take them outside and cover them with a tarp to keep them safe.

Damage to the home is estimated to be around $40,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however one of the residents told IFD that the family had been experiencing electrical problems in the home earlier in the week, and that he’d smelled something burning earlier this morning but couldn’t find a cause.
