House fire sends five people to the hospital

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 22, 2015) — The Indianapolis Fire Department is investigating a house fire that sent five people to the hospital.

The fire happened at 4:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of North Harding Street on the near northwest side of Indianapolis.  When fire crews arrived, they found four people standing on the roof. One female jumped about 12 feet to the ground. Three others were rescued.

Fire officials said eight people total were living in the house. The four others made it out on their own. Five people total were taken to the hospital and treated for slight injuries. Three others were treated on scene.

Two animals were also rescued and revived with oxygen.

There were no working smoke detectors.  The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

Extra fire crews were sent to the scene because of the cold temperatures.
