PARIS (November 14, 2015) – An American woman is among at least 129 people killed in the terrorists attacks in Paris, three U.S. officials said.

The woman killed was Nohemi Gonzalez, a 23-year-old design student from Cal State Long Beach. Gonzalez was in Paris as part of an international exchange program at the Strate School of Design, according to a statement translated from French and posted on Facebook by the school’s dean.

That news is among the first snippets of information about the background of people who lost their lives in Friday’s attacks.

Additionally, the State Department has confirmed that Americans are also among the injured.

“The‎ United States Embassy in Paris is working round the clock to assist American citizens affected by this tragedy. ‎The U.S. government is working closely with French authorities to identify American victims. We are aware there are Americans among the injured, and are offering them the full range of consular assistance,” said U. S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner.
