INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 30, 2015)— A City-County Councilor was treated for injuries sustained in the shooting at Washington Square Mall Wednesday night.

Councilor La Keisha Jackson (District 18) was not shot, but she was injured and taken to the hospital following the incident. Jackson was released from the hospital and is now recovering at home.

Jackson released the following statement:

“On Wednesday, I witnessed a criminal act while shopping in my community. While I am deeply disturbed by the actions of the individuals who put the lives of our neighbors in jeopardy, I remain focused on working with public safety and our community to stop this kind of senseless violence. The far eastside is a wonderful place to live, work, worship, and raise a family. We also are open for business, and I encourage people to continue to support far eastside businesses.

On a personal note, I want to thank the first responders who assisted us on the scene, and the many people who have reached out to me expressing their concern. I am very grateful for the support.”
