Residents in 4-block radius evacuated after house explodes in Muncie

MUNCIE, Ind. (Oct. 29, 2015)-- Fire crews responded to a house explosion Thursday evening in Muncie.

The explosion occurred just before 8 p.m. at 13th Street and Eaton Avenue.

No injuries were reported. Residents within a four-block radius of the house were evacuated.

The house to the north of the blast site was damaged.

The Red Cross is being activated in response to the explosion. People in the area tell CBS4 gas could be smelled from more than a mile away.

The homeowner, who reportedly moved out about six weeks ago, was located and is safe.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Investigators will continue to sort through the debris Friday morning.
