Man gets jail time in fatal beating of Kokomo man
UPDATE (June 5, 2017)– Diamonty Newman pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and was sentenced to 10 years in the Department of Correction, followed by two years of supervised probation. He will get one day credit for every three days served.
KOKOMO, Ind. (October 28, 2015) – A teenager accused of murdering a Kokomo man was arrested on voluntary manslaughter charges Tuesday in Iowa.
According to Kokomo police, Diamonty Newman, 18, was taken into custody without incident for an active warrant out of Howard County for one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of aggravated battery.
The warrants stem from the ongoing death investigation of Derrick Morris, 44, that occurred on September 11.
At this point in time, investigators believe Newman murdered Morris over some type of debt or money issue.
Newman is currently being held in the Linn County Correctional Center until extradition back to Kokomo, Indiana.
