Bus crash in Lawrence County sends ten Bloomington students to hospital

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. (October 20, 2015) – Ten Bloomington students are hospitalized following a bus crash in Lawrence County.

According to the sheriff’s department, they received a 911 call around 9:40 a.m. in regards to a bus crash on State Road 37, just south of Wesley Chapel Road.  This is between Bedford and Mitchell.

When police arrived, they found a bus on its side.

The bus from Harmony Schools in Bloomington was taking students on a field trip to Marengo Cave when a tire blew out. This caused the bus to go into the median, turn on its side, and slide partially into the northbound lanes.

Emergency personnel transported 10 students to several different hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

All of the student on the bus were between 14 and 15-years-old.

It doesn’t appear that any of the injuries the students suffered are life-threatening.
