MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (October 15, 2015) – Anderson police are investigating a theft that occurred within the police department.

On September 25, it was discovered that over $5,000 had been stolen from the Madison County Drug Task Force office located within the Anderson Police Department.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

In an effort to prevent any future occurrences of this nature, additional security measures have been implemented in the area surrounding the Drug Task Force office, as well as the Anderson Police Department in its entirety.

The Anderson Police Department, as well as the Madison County Drug Task Force, are shocked and deeply saddened by this occurrence.

“In addition to constituting a criminal offense, the person(s) responsible have violated the public’s trust, an issue that we take very seriously,” said Anderson Police Department PIO Sgt. Chad Boynton.

Due to the fact that the theft involved public funds, notification was made to the Madison County Prosecutor, as well as the Indiana State Board of Accounts.
