Speedway shooting leaves one man in critical condition
SPEEDWAY, Ind. (October 4, 2015) – A 30-year-old Speedway man is in critical condition after someone shot him three times outside his apartment, according to Speedway Police Sgt. Jim Thiele.
The victim’s girlfriend told police the man came home around 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning and the couple saw a suspicious person walking in the parking lot outside their apartment, Thiele said.
When the man went outside to confront the suspicious person, gunshots followed.
Police responded to the New International Village Apartments around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
They found multiple gun casings in the parking lot and blood throughout the victim’s apartment building.
At least two bullets hit the apartment building, 2748 Embassy Row, shattering a light and breaking windows on the building.
“I slept on the couch last night. It very easily could have been someone in my household,” Mandee Osborn said.
Osborn and her children live in the apartment building next to where the shooting happened. The complex is usually quiet, she said.
“Normally we have no issues,” Osborn said. “The kids are usually outside playing,”
She said she is now concerned for her children’s safety.
“I just really hope that this is taken it seriously around this community,” Osborn said. “Maybe they could have an extra patrol through here.”
Que Williams said she recently moved her family to the Speedway area to get away from crime.
“It surprised me,” Williams said. “I actually moved this way because I thought it was safer, but now I’m not sure now.”
Police still need to talk to the victim to find out suspect information and more about what led up to the shooting, Thiele said.
Speedway Police ask anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
