INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 2, 2015) – American Senior Communities parted ways with two additional high-ranking officials weeks after firing its CEO.

The company announced the departure of COO Dan Benson. CFO Roger Werner has submitted his resignation, the company said. The moves follow a federal investigation and internal investigation.

ASC has launched a search to find interim and permanent replacements who will “promote and maintain the ASC culture of caring for others while demonstrating the highest level of integrity,” the company said.

For the time being, Mark Jackson is the acting CEO, Blake Jackson the acting COO and David Justice the acting CFO while the company engages in a search to fill these positions.

In mid-September, federal authorities raided the home of now-former CEO James Burkhart. Authorities gathered boxes of materials and put them into vehicles. Personnel from the Medicare Fraud Control Unit and IRS were also spotted at the site.

Days after the raid, ASC announced Burkhart’s firing, effective immediately.

The company sent a statement about the departures, saying the raid and investigation didn’t involve compromised patient care or safety:

ASC’s internal investigation confirmed that the federal investigation does not in any way involve the care provided to residents of any facility serviced by ASC.

ASC is proud of its employees who work hard and embody the company’s commitment to integrity and serving its residents. ASC will not allow the actions of a few individuals to compromise its mission of providing quality care. ASC’s owners, Board of Directors and senior leadership are confident that ASC employees will continue the strong tradition of providing excellent care, which has made ASC a valued and respected provider of senior care in Indiana.
