Johnson County police urge vigilance after rash of car break-ins

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (Sept. 29, 2015) – Police in Johnson County are warning residents after a series of vehicle thefts in White River Township.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, eight thefts were reported from Sunday night into Monday morning in the Old Smith Valley area. The thefts happened on the following roads: Hyatt, Welton, Old Smith Valley and Turfway.

In several cases, vehicles were parked in the driveway and left unlocked. The thief or thieves took coins, cigarettes, a bottle of cough syrup, a digital camera and a GPS device from the vehicles. In one case, a woman’s purse was stolen from her car; she found the purse down the street with $100 and a credit card missing.

Police are reminding residents to watch for suspicious activity and keep their vehicles locked.

Police don’t have a suspect at the moment and said they don’t have a description of the thieves or any vehicles that may have been involved in the thefts.
