INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 14, 2015)— Crews with the Indianapolis Fire Department battled a large fire on Indianapolis’ near north side Monday morning. No one was hurt.
A house located near 30th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. streets caught fire just before 5 a.m. Heavy fire and smoke could be seen from I-65 nearby.
Officials say the house was vacant and the fire spread to a neighboring vacant house. IFD Captain Rita Reith says the fire could've spread to a third home if crews hadn't been so quick in responding. There was some heat damage to the third home, but crews had the flames under control within about a half hour.
Overall, damage is estimated at $105,000. IFD continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
