Cheerleading squad performs 9/11 tribute routine, gets mixed reviews

LUMBERTON, Texas (September 14, 2015) – A Texas cheer squad is getting a lot of attention after they performed a routine set to the sounds of the 9/11 tragedy.

Crystalynn Petoskey, a student at Lumberton High School, uploaded a video of the routine to her Facebook page on Friday, the 14th anniversary of the attacks. The video has since been viewed over 24 million times, and it’s been shared by over 788,000 people.

Lauren Sheffield is the cheer squad coach, and she told BuzzFeed News the squad has done a 9/11 tribute routine every year since 2002. Sheffield says she even performed a tribute routine back when she was in high school.

“We do this because we believe it is very important to honor and remember the first responders, those who gave their lives, and those who still mourn the hole left by lost loved ones,” Sheffield told Buzzfeed News.
