BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (September 12, 2015)–22-year-old Tyler Miller of Columbus told authorities he had successfully driven across the shallow waters of Flat Rock River.

But Saturday afternoon Miller’s 1994 Toyota 4-Runner became stuck in the river just below the US 31 bridge.

A passerby spotted the stranded vehicle and called 911.  When emergency crews arrived, all four occupants of the vehicle were safely out of the water without injury.

Miller said he was driving from one sand bar to another when the driver side front tire dropped into a hole and he became stuck.

Authorities warn that although water levels are currently low,  driving through any body of water can prove dangerous.

Miller told emergency crews he has arranged to recover the vehicle from the river.
