Man sentenced after killing cat with blow darts
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 10, 2015)– An Indianapolis man who pleaded guilty to shooting a cat with blow darts was sentenced Thursday.
Jeremiah Long, 23, was arrested on animal cruelty charges last year after admitting to fatally shooting his neighbor’s cat “Tippy” with blow darts because it was fighting with his cat. The animal was so severely injured, it had to be put down.
Court records show he was sentenced to 363 days on home detention through community corrections. He also must pay $422 in restitution.
Long told police at the time he didn’t think shooting the cat with several darts was excessive and told the officer he didn’t call police because he “did not think it was important.”
X-rays show 10 blow darts hit Tippy, each dart about four inches long. The darts were in the cat’s face, back, legs, and even in his rectum.
