BLOOMIGNTON, Ind. (Sept. 9, 2015) - A Southern Indiana school district is the latest to include sexual orientation and gender identity into to its anti-bullying plan.

Monroe County Community School District, LGBTQ students and community members all worked together to help protect students throughout the district.

The school board said harassment based on sexual orientation and gender identity will not be tolerated. The district says it was the right thing to do to provide a safe learning environment for all of its students.

Bloomington PRIDE says it supports the policy change.

“I think helps teachers and administrators be able to say, you know this is what we mean when we say all students regardless of these different things and I think it helps everybody understand that a little more clearly so, it can’t be all students, except this,”said Laura Ingram with Bloomington PRIDE's Prism Youth program.

Several school districts we checked with prohibit bullying of any kind against any of their students.

Indianapolis Public Schools' policy also includes sexual orientation and gender identity.

The policy applies to all students, administrators, teachers, staff and other school personnel.
