INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 5, 2015) – Reggie Wayne was released from the New England Patriots, and apparently it was on his own accord.

According to Indy Sports Central reporter Mike Chappell, sources say Wayne asked to be released and the team obliged.

Wayne, 36, appeared in two preseason games with the Patriots, and he started in the finale against the New York Giants. In that game, he was targeted 10 times and had two catches for 24 yards.

Wayne became an unrestricted free agent in February when the Colts opted not to offer him a new contract. If he gets picked up by another team, it will be his 15th season in the NFL.
