Recreational shooting ends with bullet in Bartholomew County home
BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (September 5, 2015) – On Friday, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Greg Duke and Deputy Terry Holderness were called to a Georgetown Road residence regarding a rifle round that had entered the house.
Fortunately, no one was injured.
Lt. Duke and Deputy Holderness followed the sound of shooting to a property east of the complainant where they confronted the property owner and his son. They said they were shooting recreationally.
Although this appears to be an accident, a report will be forwarded to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office.
Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers wants to remind residents that shooting safety is your responsibility.
Whether you are interested in recreational shooting, competition, or hunting, you must make it safe for everyone by making it a point to practice and teach proper firearm safety.
“Just as the folks shooting in this incident apparently thought they were being safe, a bullet ended up in the home of another resident,” said Sheriff Myers.
