IFD fights vacant building fire

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 5, 2015) – Indianapolis Fire Department dispatched firefighters to a building on the city’s near northwest side early Saturday morning.

They arrived at the corner of Roache Street and Harding Street around 12:30 and found fire showing near the back. They say the fire then spread up into the roof of the building, the fire could be seen for blocks.

The building, which includes the French Connection Convenience Shop, had stores on the main floor and apartments above. IFD says the building has been vacant for at least 6 months.

Firefighters finally got the fire under control around 2:00 am, but continued to battle hot spots for an additional 30 minutes. No one was hurt in the fire.

IFD estimated the damage to cost around $200,000.
