Police: Brothers steal dog food, beer from Columbus store

COLUMBUS, Ind. (Aug. 31, 2015) – Police arrested a pair of Sheridan brothers on several charges after employees caught them stealing from a Columbus store.

Officers from the Columbus Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 block of Merchants Mile on Friday around 7:10 p.m. Store security told police a man stole dog food and several cases of beer from a department store.

One of the men left in a vehicle while the other ran into a nearby cornfield, police said. Officers spotted the vehicle on State Road 46 and detained David A. Clark, 59, Sheridan. They found a loaded handgun and said Clark did not have a permit for the weapon.

Officers located his brother, Michael L. Clark, 58, Sheridan, near a hotel on State Road 46. The brothers were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.

David Clark faces charges of possession of handgun without a permit and false informing. Michael Clark faces charges of public intoxication, theft and resisting law enforcement.
