EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (August 19, 2015) — The sunflowers stretch for more than 4 miles along a Wisconsin highway.

The hundreds of thousands of yellow blossoms along Highway 85 near Eau Claire are a tribute to Babbette Jaquish, who died in November from cancer. During her nine years with cancer, her husband, Don Jaquish, began planting sunflowers, her favorite flower, on their farm.

Her daughter, Jennifer White, tells WQOW-TV her mother’s dream was to donate part of the proceeds from selling the sunflowers to cancer research and to families with treatment expenses. That blossomed into a project called Babbette’s Seeds of Hope.

The family doesn’t own all the land where the ribbon of sunflowers now graces the highway. Jaquish says he’s amazed at how people have allowed him to use their property in his wife’s honor.
