CHICAGO (August 17, 2015) -- A member of the Army Golden Knights parachute team died in a mid-air collision Sunday afternoon in Chicago during the Chicago Air and Water Show.

Authorities have reported that Sgt. First Class Corey Hood, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died when Hood collided Saturday with a member from the Navy Leap Frog team and then hit and bounced off a 20-story building near North Lake Shore Drive.

Hood had been in surgery to relieve pressure off his brain following the accident, but doctors deemed his injuries too much for him to overcome.

A witness had told authorities that the emergency parachute did not open at first, which may have also led to Hood's horrific free fall.

The other parachutist has not been identified by authorities, and only broke his leg in the incident after landing on the beach.
