Fort Wayne elementary school teacher killed in accident on first day of school

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (August 12, 2015)–  An elementary school teacher walking along I-469 near Stellhorn Road, just east of Ft. Wayne, was struck and killed Wednesday morning after leaving his vehicle.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Chris Dodane, a second grade teacher at Cedar Canyon Elementary School, was struck by a semi after he had left his vehicle on the side of the interstate after it had developed a mechanical problem.

Dodane had begun walking along the interstate shoulder, but according to police reports, may have inadvertently walked into the path of a semi.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time no charges have been filed against the driver. The investigation is ongoing.

Wednesday was the first day of school for the Northwest Allen County Schools.
