FRANKLIN, Ind. (Aug. 5, 2015) – One person was killed in a crash on southbound I-65 in Johnson County.

Police were called to the scene of a crash at 1:30 p.m. near the State Road 44 exit at Franklin.

A preliminary investigation reveals a nine-passenger van carrying eight people was traveling southbound when it ran off the roadway to the right side and rolled over.

One passenger was ejected from the van and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Johnson County Coroner. He was identified as Eladio R. Salinas, 45, of Chicago.

"If you are driving I-65 between Indianapolis and Louisville you are going to run into one project after another," said Indiana Department of Transportation spokesperson Harry Maginity.

The van ran off the roadway on I-65 at the 88.5 mile marker and rolled over.

"The right lane there is the reinforced and a widened shoulder-- it's 11-feet wide," said Maginity.

The driver of the van was transported to St. Francis Hospital with head injuries, and the remaining six passengers were transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Along I-65, there are  three projects in the works, costing over $150 million.
