MOORESVILLE, Ind. (August 5, 2015) – A former Mooresville elementary school teacher’s aide was arrested Tuesday and is accused of being sexually involved with a 13-year-old boy, as well as several other teenagers, over the course of several months.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Terra Moore told police that in June she met a 17-year-old Mooresville High School student on Instagram and arranged for him and his 17-year-old friend to come to her house. While the boys were there, she performed sexual acts on both of them.
Moore also told police that in April she sent a 14-year-old boy a naked picture on Instagram after he told her he “had feelings for her.” She said, in return, the boy sent her a naked picture of himself, but she claimed said she never inappropriately touched the boy.
Moore agreed to sign a consent form for police to search through her phone.
When police brought the 14-year-old boy in for questioning, he told police that Moore sent him naked pictures three to four times via Snapchat and Instagram starting the second week in April. He was 13-years-old at the time. The boy told police that Moore also sent his friend naked pictures on Snapchat.
The 14-year-old boy said Moore had sexual contact with him on three separate occasions. The first time it happened, Moore allegedly picked him up from his house and drove around for a bit in order to find a “good spot.” When Moore couldn’t find a good spot, she pulled back into the boy’s driveway and began touching him in a sexual manner, read court documents.
On the second occurrence, Moore invited the boy into her bedroom, took off all of her clothes, removed the boy’s clothes, and performed sexual acts on him. Court documents revealed on the third occasion, Moore picked the boy up from baseball practice, drove him to the back of Newby Elementary School, and made sexual contact with him.
Police spoke with the boy's friend, who is also 14 years old. He told officers he started flirting with Moore on Instagram, and she sent him upwards of 15 naked pictures of herself on Snapchat.
Authorities also questioned Moore's friend, who told police Moore showed shirtless pictures of herself to high school boys and that she was sexually involved with a 16-year-old boy from Tri-West High School.
A forensic inspection of Moore’s phone revealed naked pictures and explicit sexual content involving Moore.
Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega declined to compare the case to other similar cases he’s seen in the past. But he said a case like this carries a lesson for all parents.
“I would just urge parents to be aware of social media,” Sonnega said. “To not be afraid to check your child’s phone. If you’re paying the bill, you have a right as a parent to look at who the contacts are, look at what apps are there. Educate yourself on, what is SnapChat, what is Instagram? What are those apps?”
Neighbors of Moore say they were aware that she and her husband were having some marital issues, but they never suspected anything like the accusations made against Terra Moore.
“I was just shocked, I’ve known them for like ten years. It’s a great family. I never would have expected this from her.”
Police plan on speaking with more juveniles Moore may have been involved with in the near future.
Moore is currently charged with three counts sexual misconduct with a minor and three counts dissemination of matter harmful to minors. Those are all felony charges.
